Biographie de Phil Tippett
Phil Tippett est un réalisateur et superviseur des effets visuels américain, né le 27 septembre 1951 à Berkeley, Californie. Dès son plus jeune âge, il est fasciné par le stop-motion, notamment après avoir vu "Le Septième Voyage de Sinbad" de Ray Harryhausen à l'âge de sept ans. Diplômé en art de l'Université de Californie à Irvine, il commence sa carrière chez Cascade Pictures à Los Angeles.
En 1975, il rejoint Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) de George Lucas, où il crée la scène d'échecs holographique en stop-motion pour "Star Wars" (1977). Il supervise ensuite l'animation des marcheurs AT-AT et des tauntauns dans "L'Empire contre-attaque" (1980), co-développant la technique du go motion pour des animations plus réalistes. Son travail sur "Le Dragon du lac de feu" (1981) lui vaut une nomination aux Oscars. En 1984, Tippett fonde Tippett Studio et réalise le court-métrage "Prehistoric Beast". Il crée les séquences animées du robot ED-209 pour "RoboCop" (1987) et supervise les effets des arachnides géants dans "Starship Troopers" (1997). Pour "Jurassic Park" (1993), il adapte son expertise au numérique, supervisant l'animation des dinosaures en CGI, ce qui lui vaut un second Oscar. En 2021, après 30 ans de travail, il sort "Mad God", un film en stop-motion financé via Kickstarter et diffusé sur Shudder.
